The use of food supplements in particular, multivitamins is very popular. Vitamins have been around for over 50 years and the term Vitamine was first used in 1912 by C. Funk. Multivitamins are used as food supplement to bridge the nutritional gap between what the body needs and what can be sourced from everyday diet. Achieving a healthy diet which has all the recommended levels of vitamins and minerals can be difficult in today’s world. The level of trace elements in food crops are affected by the soil in which they are grown. Soil has become depleted resulting in lower level of trace elements, which could be due to the over farming. Society has become more aware for the need to look health and wellbeing and prevent long term chronic disease, that the use of multivitamins has soared over the last decade.
